Maureen Murphy kicked off last Friday’s Miller Made Music Showcase with a lot of heart and whole lot of soul. Murphy’s driving vocal talent and her top notch backing band kept the audience wanting more. The upbeat set pulsated with soulful lyrics and catchy choruses. Murphy performed her latest single Won’t Wait Around, which exquisitely showcased her dynamic ability and not to mention has all the qualities of a number one hit.

Murphy has lived in Music City for six years, by way of Cape Cod, Massachusetts. “My sole purpose in coming to Nashville was to pursue music,” Murphy said. She has pursued music to the fullest by becoming a principal figure in the Nashville music scene, gaining the respect of fellow musicians, and increasing her fan base with each performance.A diva in her own right, Murphy is heavily influenced by many of the greats such as, Aretha Franklin, Mariah Carey, and Whitney Houston. “Martin Sexton, Otis Redding, and of course Stevie Wonder were also huge influences for me,” said Murphy.

Maureen Murphy signed with Nashville based independent record label It Is What It Is in the Fall of 2007. Murphy’s first EP Won’t Wait Around, produced by Ryan Michaels and Brent Hendrich, released in March 2008. Her title track Won’t Wait Around is set to air on Lightning 100 as a Local Lightning Spotlight the week of May 26, 2008.
